(en) The tour starts at the Gëlle Fra. The Gëlle Fra is a monument to the Luxembourgish soldiers who died in World War I. It is 21 meters tall and stands on Constitution Square. From there, you have a beautiful view of the Pétrusse Valley.
(en) Right next to the Gëlle Fra is the entrance to the Casemates. These are tunnels under Luxembourg City that are about 20 kilometers long in total. The Casemates are open for visits in the spring and summer. It's interesting, and we're going to check it out now!
(en) After visiting the Casemates, we’ll take a short break and go to the Plëss for a drink. The official name of the Plëss is Place d'Armes. There are many cafés and restaurants with terraces, and there are always a lot of people. At the kiosk in the middle of the square, there are many concerts during the summer.
(en) From the Plëss, we go to the Knuedler. There you’ll find the tourist office, the town hall, and a statue of William II on a horse. The official name of the square is Place Guillaume II. Here, a market is held every Wednesday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
(en) From the Knuedler, it takes us just a minute to reach the Palace. This is the residence of the Grand Duke in the city. The architecture is in Renaissance and Baroque styles. We don’t have an appointment for a visit, so we’ll just look at the Palace from the outside. To the right of the Palace is the Chamber, the Luxembourgish Parliament.
(en) Afterward, we’ll take the Wenzel Tour. This is a tour through Luxembourg's old town. We’ll see the ruins of the fortress, and on the information boards, we’ll learn interesting facts about the history of Luxembourg. The tour takes about 100 minutes and ends in the Grund.
(en) The Grund is our last stop. It’s a very popular district of the city. There are many bistros, and in summer, you can relax on a terrace by the water. A small river, the Alzette, flows through the Grund.
